Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) Screening for Premature Infants Quality Improvement Project

APHL, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin, is in the early stages of planning a National Surveillance Project on SCID NBS in Premature Infants. Through this project, we hope to evaluate characteristics and outcomes of SCID screening in premature infants among multiple state newborn screening programs and to identify best practices in handling and providing recommendations for presumptive positive SCID NBS results based on different gestational age or birthweight groups. The success of this proposed project will result in strategies that could reduce the unnecessary follow-up activities associated with false positive SCID screening results due to prematurity.
